Our Approach
Tailored support, built around each young person
At SEN Manny Mentor, we support neurodivergent young people to feel safe and understood, helping them reconnect with themselves and rediscover a sense of curiosity in learning.
For many, mainstream education does not meet their needs. It can feel overwhelming or frustrating, and at times counterproductive, often leading to anxiety, disengagement and a loss of confidence.
We start with the young person, not the system. Support is shaped around who they are, meeting them where they are and evolving alongside them over time.

What is a SEN Manny Mentor?

The term “Manny Mentor” reflects a blend of mentoring and the consistent, supportive role traditionally associated with a “manny”.
A SEN Manny Mentor is a trusted adult who enters the young person’s world first, building a genuine connection before anything is expected in return.
Many of the young people we support have become disengaged from education after trust has been lost within traditional systems. Our first priority is to rebuild that trust, gently and without pressure.
Once that foundation is in place, everything begins to shift. Confidence grows. Communication improves. Learning becomes possible again.
How We Work
Every young person is different, so our approach is never one-size-fits-all.
We shape support around the individual, their needs, their pace and how they engage. Sessions are flexible and responsive, guided by how the young person is feeling on the day.
We focus on the whole young person, not just academic outcomes. Confidence and emotional regulation are central to long-term progress, alongside communication and independence.
Engagement starts with what matters to them. Whether that is gaming, storytelling, sport, music or creative interests, we use these as the starting point for connection and growth.
Our approach is grounded in a strong awareness of PDA. We reduce unnecessary pressure, adapt communication carefully and introduce challenge only when the young person is ready. This allows for steady, sustainable progress without overwhelm.

Who This Support Is For

Our approach is particularly suited to young people who:
-
are neurodivergent (autism, ADHD, PDA, etc.)
-
experience anxiety, burnout or school avoidance
-
find traditional education environments overwhelming
-
require support alongside EOTAS or home education
-
have lost confidence in themselves or the education system
For Parents

These situations are complex, and there is often a lot going on behind the scenes.
Our role is to provide consistent, thoughtful support for your child, while also bringing clarity and reassurance for you.
You’ll receive clear weekly reports outlining what sessions have looked like, how your child is engaging, and the progress being made. Many families also use these reports to support conversations with schools or local authorities.
Behind each young person is a wider team, ensuring support is consistent and carefully considered over time.
We take responsibility for planning, reflection and ongoing adaptation, so support remains meaningful and effective.
